To Catch a Skunk..
So, here's the scene. 10:45pm on a Tuesday night. Lying in bed, waiting for sweet, sweet slumber to take over. Almost there....
Then. Our baby cat, Midnight (aka Itty Bitty 2) jumps up on the bed, as usual. That is when it hit. Such a strong, overpowering and unmistakable odor. He had been hit by a skunk.
Thankfully John sprung into action and sequested us in the bathroom and began to run the tub. Do you think we had tomato juice on hand? Nah, never touch the stuff. All we had was a can of stewed tomato's. That wasn't going to fly. So, we crossed our fingers and toes and hoped Owen's baby wash would work. It did!!! (there is a whole new market out there~!)
The cat was great once the water stopped running, and relatively calm. We washed, washed again, then rinsed a few times. And wouldn't you know it? Baby fresh smelling cat. As a quick footnote, in the 14 years I have had cats, never has one of them been tagged by a skunk. Until Tuesday night, that is.So much for the perfect track record!
God Bless You, Johnson&Johnson..if this baby wash line doesn't work out for you, I know a whole new marketing angle you can take....

Plague of '08
Has hit our house. HARD. It all started with me on Saturday, and it lingered well into Monday. Then, poor John got it today and actually left work (he never does that!)John's son got it today, too..and poor Owie has a sore bum, so that means it can't be far behind...
Let the good times roll. Roll? who needs a new roll of toilet paper? Just bought the econo-pack, as we went thru another econo-pack in 3 days.
Yea. Great.

So much to say, no desire to say it.
You know when there is just so much going on, and you want to catch people up, but don't even know where to begin? Yeah. That's where I am right about now. So, I will stick with the happy stuff because I don't think my very fragile psyche can deal with rehashing all the bad.
Owen is linking together 2, 3, 4 words to make some choppy sentances. It is SO very nice to be able to communicate with him, and give him what he wants most of the time! We have fascinating discussions.
Me: Do you want peanut butter and fluff for lunch honey?
Owen: No.
Me: Sure you don't want peanut butter and fluff?
Owen: No.
Me: How about a peanut butter and fluff sandwich?
Owen: ok.
See? Easy as that.
ANother fabulous developement is we have gotten him to enjoy the bathtub again. For a while, he only wanted to take showers with us. My cousin Jenna and her almost 24 month old son came down a while back and that was the trick for the tubby. Fun stuff. He begs for tubbies now, and enjoys showing off his "swimming" skills. For Christmas, my parents signed him up for Water Babies at the Y. He (and they) have a blast!
We are still going thru a thing in the middle of the night when he wakes up, wants a bottle, and will go back to sleep. That is pretty annoying. At least he goes back to sleep...a nice benefit is that he sleeps later in the morning. Except of course, when we have to be out of the house early. That usually doesn't end well with me having to wake him up.
For the past few months, I have had a small training potty in our bathroom for him to use and get used to seeing. It has become a pit stop for toys. Last week, he spontaneously decided to use the big boy potty!! He actually went several times. I have been trying to get myself in the habit of asking him frequently if he needs to use the potty. Usually, he does and usually we get a few trickles in the potty. Very exciting stuff. I have decided against trying to use the small training potty, and bought a padded Elmo small toilet seat that fits over the big toilet. We have had some success! Quite fun. I hope the rest of potty training goes this easy. Hey, I can always hope, right???
And now, with him potty training, and loving to take tubs, I have decided it is finally time to finish off the upstairs bathroom. I would like to repaint it (currently it is the color of a faded manilla envelope). I have some really cute accessories from the Under the Sea theme, and just need to buy a matching shower curtain. A bit of paint, a cute border, and Owen's bathroom will be complete!
We have already decided on a John Deere tractor theme for Owen's 2nd bday party in March. How is that even possible? For him to be TWO? Crazy. One of my coworkers had a baby in November and she brought her in the other day. It really seems like he was just that size recently..I've never been one to have a great memory, but sheesh...
I guess that is about it. The crap stuff will have to wait.

Eyes Wide Open
And I mean that quite literally. It is 3:44 a.m. on Tuesday morning.
Owen continued his never-ending assault on my sleep tonight. He was up at 2am. He has come down with a cold, and earlier on Monday developed a slight fever. Fine. I can handle that. He had some water, a little bottle and back to sleep. Me? Not so lucky. I was awake long enough for all the thoughts running thru my mind to keep me awake.
Among these earth shattering thoughts? Let me give you a sample:
1. John needs to mail out a package we have had since OCTOBER to our friend in Wyoming (It is an Xmas present for his son).
2. I need to call my primary for a referral to take care of my right elbow/arm pain.
3. I need to mail my new patient questionnaire to facility I am being referrred to for above.
4. I need to do Food shopping.
5. How am I going to physically make it thru work tomorrow night until 9:30pm?
6. How do I verbalize, in a politically correct way, to the lawyer and his client that she needs a monstrous bitch slap?
7. I need to get more tampons&pads tomorrow because this period is out of control.
8. And Motrin due to above.
9. I have to get to my second job at some point this week to get some hours in.
10. We need to pay the mortgage.
11. Damn this house is cold at this time of night.
SO, that would be a glimpse into my gray matter. Nothing earth shattering, but enough to get my brain whizzing around. *sigh*.
Insomnia has never been a problem for me. I used to get it maybe once or twice a year, and that was it. But this? Ugh. I have had it now 3 nights in the past week. It is not like I can take a sleeping pill because of Owen. Amazingly, John NEVER hears him crying. Isn't that just the darndest thing? The baby monitor is literally on our headboard between the 2 of us and he NEVER hears it!! I guess I can add that to this list of Things Keeping me Awake. It is so frustrating. Why am I the only one to get up with him? Just once I would like him to beat me to the punch. Even if I end up awake, at least I know he would get the baby and address whatever he needs. But no. He snores soundly thru it.
Well, it is now 4am. Will have a glass of water and try to lay back down. Try to salvage some part of sleep this evening.
